A Public School in the Heart of Watts
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5

This year Prost is supporting Ritter Elementary School, a public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District located in the heart of Watts.  As we all know public schools in this area are more financially challenged than those in more affluent areas in Los Angeles and need our help. We specifically chose Ritter Elementary because they need our help to continue their success story.  Under the leadership of Charlene Green, the school, a part of the Mayor's Partnership Program, has significantly raised its scores almost 50 points, rising out of the position of second lowest performing school in the district, to a hidden jewel of Watts.

Community participation is essential to sustain and continue this growth and with the generous support of Prost we can make a significant difference in the lives of nearly 400 students. We know that a good education for every child will make that child, our community and society stronger and more competitive in the global environment. The needs for the classrooms are diverse and vast. With that in mind we have a list of items that would be appreciated. In addition to the actual items requested, gift cards would also be beneficial to purchase some of the larger items at stores such as Target, Best Buy and Staples. General Visa and MasterCard Gift Cards would also be much appreciated.

Thank you members, guests and friends for your support. This year helping a public school in a financially deprived area in our community, whose children are showing progress, is more important than ever. Your gifts are of immeasurable importance and so appreciated.

Dear Prost Members, Friends & Guests,

I personally thank each and every one of you wonderful Prost members, friends and guests who attended our fantastic Christmas luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel for your outpouring of support.

All of you outdid yourselves and contributed over $3,900.00 in gift cards, checks and cash, and we are still awating the count of wonderful gifts you brought to the luncheon and sent to Ritter Elementary School. The gifts were beyond expectations.

This year the focus was on education for a public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. As a group you showed how we can make a difference in the lives of children in an economically deprived area. These children are extraordinarily bright and by virtue of an extraordinary Principal Charlene Green (whom you all of course met), are going to make it through to higher education.
You my friends, have shown that public education is a number one prioirty. You are a perfect group!

Thank you Executive Board for your support. A huge thanks to Barbara Lamel and Cynthia Teheda who supported me from the beginning and did as much as anyone to make this charity happen for our event. They are two dedicated, loving and considerate women who did everything possible to make our charity a success. Barbara is especially knowledgeable about the workings of LAUSD and helped coordinate volunteers Ilene Koenig, Helga Bacchetti and Lise O'Donnell. They were wonderful and stayed until the job was done. Sascha-Lena Henckell thankfully did not leave the event table for a moment . Rowena Tucker and Phil Westernoff did double duty at our event table while helping with check-in. Cynthia loaded the gifts in her car to take them to the school.

The Los Angeles Unified School District and the Mayor's Partnership Program is grateful for our participation. It has helped them enormously. Our community participation in moving forward the success of their school was overwhelming for them.

Deepest thanks to all of you and great wishes for your continued success in 2012.
